Sydney Wholesaler wins prestigious industry award

It was applause all round when well known Sydney Markets wholesaler, Mark Kelly was announced as the recipient of the prestigious Industry Merit Award for 2011 at the recent Sydney Markets annual gala ball. The Award, now in its nineteenth year, recognises those who have made a significant contribution to the Markets and the fruit and vegetable industry.

Mark, a second generation wholesaler in the family business, Lockhart Endeavour, was recognised not only for his success in business but more for his dedication to improving things in the industry. As Mark’s Award citation stated in part; ‘he doesn’t just stand back and complain about a problem (in the industry), he ‘rolls up his sleeves and gets stuck in to get it fixed’. Mark’s industry commitment is evidenced by his appointments as Deputy President of Freshmark, the NSW Chamber of Fruit and Vegetable Industries Inc, and Deputy Chairman of the Markets charity, Sydney Markets Foundation.

Also recognised were Mark’s efforts to help others. As the citation stated ‘However, there is a lesser known side to this person that really makes them a standout candidate for this Award; their great compassion for the less fortunate. Every time there is a need or a cause they can be relied on to lend a hand. This is invariably done without fanfare or desire for recognition but because they just want to help.’
